WikiLeaks Revelations: The Implications for Diplomacy

Wikileaks is releasing hundreds of thousands of classified diplomatic communications. But when the dust settles and the sensational tid-bits are forgotten, some of the longer-term impacts on diplomacy may in fact be positive.

NYT quotes on the US’s Georgian assumptions circa 2008 show a less than sensational tidbit…

“Mr. Kutelia’s assurance did not stand, even in real time. In one of the few signs of the embassy having staff in the field, the cable noted that ‘‘embassy observers on the highway’’ saw about 30 government buses ‘‘carrying uniformed men heading north”

…Of what being a diplomat can be beyond cables…..
